Our Second Cruise

Warning, long post! We went on our second cruise over Spring Break. We enjoyed it so much more than the first cruise we took in 2008. Being on a bigger ship, having a balcony, and 3 extra days made such a huge difference. We left from New Orleans (after a 4 hour delay), and traveled to Belize, Roatan (an island in Honduras), and Cozumel. This was our second trip to Cozumel, and so much has changed in 2 years!

Our next stop was Roatan, Honduras. It is a BEAUTIFUL island. Unfortunately, the area where the boat docks is very American-ized. Carnival built a tourist village and restaurants there. It had only been a cruise stop for about 4 months when we were there. We just rented chairs on Mahogany Beach and relaxed until it started to rain.

Our last stop was Cozumel. We took a taxi to Chankanaab where Dane snorkeled (I tried but the water was too rough that day for me). I spent another day relaxing on the beach.

We had such a great time and can't wait to go again!

Show us your life-Wedding Receptions

I'm so glad Kelly has continued with Show us your life...it has given me something to talk about for the last few weeks. We go back to school next Monday so I'm sure I'll have other things to talk about soon.

I wanted our wedding to have a traditional southern feel (think old south, not redneck). We stayed away from anything modern or overly trendy. I don't want to look at our pictures in 20 years and wonder "What were we thinking?".

Our reception was at the Jiggett Home in Canton, which is a beautiful antebellum home large enough for events. Unfortunately, the lady who owns it is unreliable and hard to work with. I could do another whole post about getting stood up for appointments and all of the things that were wrong at the reception, but I won't. Thankfully, my mom and I were really the only people who knew that things weren't done correctly.

The first two pictures are of us leaving the church heading to the reception. We rode in a 1956 Ford Fairlane. I'm not a fan of limos. It's owned by a very sweet older couple and they had water and snacks ready everytime we got in the car. It was also our transportation after the reception.

All of our food and both cakes were set up inside, with a tent outside for the bar and the band.

I LOVED my cake, but hated the flowers that were put on it. I specifically asked for a few roses on the top layer and nothing else. It was almond cake with buttercream icing, and it was sooooo good. We(I) can't wait to dig into the top layer in a few months.

The groom's cake was chocolate on chocolate, and it tasted good, but didn't look much like the picture I gave the lady who made it. Oh well.

We had one of the rooms of the house decorated with some of the MSU things that my family has accumulated over the years.

These are the miniature cowbells that guests rang as we left the reception. Go Dawgs!!

First dance, "What a wonderful world". I REALLY wanted to dance to "Better Together" by Jack Johnson, but Dane thought it was too fast. My dad and I danced to "Daughters" by John Mayer, and Dane and his mom/my mom danced to "Have I told you lately". Our band was wonderful and we all had a great time. Our last dance was to "All you need is love".

Since this is already such a long post, I'm going to save our honeymoon pictures for next week, which is favorite vacation spots, so that works.

Show us your life-Wedding Party/Flowers

Today at Kelly's Korner is Show us your life-Wedding Party and Flowers. Since we got married in January, we didn't have many flower choices. I would have loved to have had peonies, but ended up with roses.

My bouquet...both of my parents' mothers died before I got married, so their engagements rings were tied to my bouquet as my "something old".

Bridesmaids' Bouquets....I am really a fan of how these turned out.

We used huge gothic arches decorated with flowers for the ceremony...

This is just my favorite wedding picture.

Today at Kelly's Korner is Show us your life-Wedding Dresses. I realize that the four (five?) people who read this were at our wedding, but I'm doing it anyways.

My dress took forever to find. I made the mistake of knowing exactly what I wanted and didn't want. We drove all the way to Low's in Arkansas (worst experience ever), Memphis, and looked at every store in Jackson. I ended up finding the perfect dress at Imaginations in Brookhaven, which will be the first place we go when my sister gets engaged. They have a great selection, more variety than anywhere else we looked, and their staff is wonderful.

So here's the dress. V-neck, a-line, lace over satin, cathedral length train. My favorite part is the scalloping on the neckline and hem. I also liked that it still looked good when bustled. It actually came with a thinner sash that I wasn't crazy about, so we ordered a wider one. I had a very simple, cathedral length illusion veil.

Dear Tony (P90x guru),

While your dvds are WONDERFUL, I do have one rather large complaint. During at least one of the videos, you say something to the effect of "Ok, now grab a quick drink of water, but no Krispy Kremes!". I'm sure I'm greatly misquoting you, but you get the point. Now, as much as I love the doughnut, its not something I crave, unless I happen to see the "hot" sign. BUT IF YOU MENTION ONE WHILE I'M WORKING AND SWEATING MY BUTT OFF, THEN DANG IT I WANT A DOUGHNUT. It's now the only food I can think about. Please keep in mind that you are talking to a woman that loves BREAD. Thanks to your diet plan, I haven't had anything remotely close to a baked good in 2 WEEKS. You're killing me.

I had way too much fun making these end of the year gifts for room mothers. It was cheap, easy, and it got the kids involved.

Expect more meaningless posts, because, well, there isn't much going on around here these days, and I still need practice making my posts look normal.

We're Back!

I'm hoping that if I start blogging again, Katie will feel sorry for me (totally don't understand how to operate blogger), and give my blog a much needed facelift.

I'm not even going to attempt to catch up on the past 5 months, but: we are married, moved back into an apartment, and we are both 6 months into new jobs. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new job. Working at Madison Crossing has been such a blessing and I am so happy to finally know what I want to do "when I grow up" (more on that later).

I would attempt to post honeymoon pictures, but arranging text around pictures is one of the many things I do not yet know how to do. Maybe Nicole or Molly will take pity on me this summer and give me lessons.

On a completely different subject, Dane and I are looking into P90x. It's something we both really want to do, but it is totally not within our budget. Hopefully we will be able to work something out!

New Year's Eve

We spent New Year's Eve at the Kirk's house with lots of friends. We had a great time and hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did!

We are down to 9 days until our wedding!! I can't wait!

Updates

Between starting 2 new jobs, wedding planning, and Christmas, our blog has suffered from severe neglect. So here are some updates!

Wedding planning has been great and next week will be spent on final preparations and meetings with vendors. Everything has been awesome so far, which makes me think I've forgotten something important. We both look forward to sharing this great time in our lives with all of our family and friends.

A few days before Christmas, Hollye, Dane and I went to Greenwood to TC and Jocelyn's wedding. The bride was beautiful and the reception was a BLAST!

In keeping with tradition, we spent Christmas Eve at the Wise's with my family and the Kirks. It was great to see Emily Kay experiencing part of her first Christmas, even if she was only concerned with eating the wrapping paper :)

We spent Christmas morning at Dane's moms, lunch at my parents, and for dinner I went with my family to Winona and Dane went to his Dad's family's Christmas. Ellie LOVED her first Christmas, probably because its the only time she's ever had treats for breakfast!

On a sad note, a friend of Dane's was severely burned in an accident on Christmas Eve. Please keep Jaime and his family in your prayers this Holiday season.

PS: I'm open to any free tutorials on how to insert pictures without making your text rearrange itself...I know it looks horrible.

Wedding Showers

Last weekend, Dane and I were lucky to be given 2 wonderful wedding showers. Saturday afternoon, my mom's friends gave me a miscellaneous shower, and that night, the Kirks and Haymans hosted a Bar Shower. Dane and I are so gracious to have such great friends!! Everything was wonderful, and I can't thank everyone enough for making us feel so special!!

Ellie

Ellie is our first and only(for the next few years) child. She was born December 16, 2007 in Baton Rouge LA. When I saw her picture I knew Dane and I had to rescue her from Tiger country asap. So....we waited. Finally, after waiting for her to have her "lady surgery", we drove 4 hours down to Baton Rouge and picked Ellie up. She rode most of the way back in someone's lap, where she fit quite nicely, weighing in at about 15 lbs. Our vet at home guessed that she would never weigh more than 35 lbs. She now weighs in at 50....yeah. She is very....interesting. Not a barker, she prefers to whine until she gets her way.

When we found out we would be adopting Ellie, Dane and I decided we would crate train her. I read up on different techiniques, talked to a vet, we found a crate....this is going to be easy, right? Ha. To say the least, Ellie was not the biggest fan of her little home. Her first crate was the perfect size, we thought, and she would feel safe and secure. Wrong. Within the first week of her being left alone in it, she managed to scoot the crate across the room to the bed and pull the VERY NICE comforter in through the slats and rip it to shreds. We're talking stuffing EVERYWHERE. The sheets met the same death days later. As did the replacement comforter.

As our sweet little girl grew, so did her antics. I returned home from work one day to find Ellie outside of her crate. Yep, we had a Houdini on our hands. She somehow managed to pull one of the crate sides INSIDE the crate (with her in it). We tried various means to keep her locked up...bungee cords(chewed through them), caribeeners(not real sure how she got those off) etc, etc, etc. So. We buy a bigger crate thinking, she's grown alot, maybe this one's too small. Nope. Not the problem. The second, larger crate ($90) lasted about a week, and is now residing in my parents attic. Ellie bent enough of the bars to wiggle her way out. So....we gave up and locked her in the bedroom, after hiding everything we thought she could reach.

Unfortunately, we didn't think about the blinds. They died a miserable death one day as Ellie clamored to watch the neighbors kids play outside. Here's a full list of everything she has methodically chewed into 1 inch pieces since March:

Mommy's favorite leather Rainbow flip-flops, 2 crates (large & medium),1 Vacuum Cleaner, 1 steam cleaner hose, 2 sets of window blinds, 2 bedspreads, 1 quilt, 1 sheet set, 1 bedskirt, 1 wicker basket, 2 Kongs, 2 pairs of shoes, 1 bracelet, 1 couch cushion, 1 couch pillow, 4 TV remotes, multiple stuffed animals, a few frisbees, bottles of lotion, 3 square feet of carpet (she thought she could "dig out" under the bedroom door)

Separation anxiety, maybe?

So, I finally got talked into starting a blog. Although I'm not sure we'll have much to talk about, it will be nice to be able to look back at the few months before and after our wedding. Someday, I'll do one of those cheesy "how we met" posts. But for now: We are getting married January 10, 2009 in Madison. We have an awesome puppy, Ellie, who will be 1 in December. We won't have any REAL children until either Ellie or Dane grow up!This is Ellie at about 6 weeks old, before we rescued her from Baton Rouge.

We (or, at least I) am really excited about our wedding. Planning has been a blast, and my family and friends have helped in so many ways. All of the dresses are in, engagement pictures have been taken (awesome photographer: David Legg), we're ordering invitations this week, and the showers will be here soon!!

I can't forget to give lots of credit and love to my computer literate friend/bridesmaid Katie Walden for setting up our blog. I was hopeless and Dane isn't even allowed to know the password. Thanks Katie, for making us look good!!
